How to Feel the Small Wins

Are you feeling daily wins? Do you feel like you are making incredible progress towards the goals that mean something to you in your career and in your life? Or, do you feel like you're not moving forward as fast as you would like? Do you feel like you're not becoming this ideal self that you know that you can be and that you really want to be? Do the days just feel like a whirlwind of tasks, and to-do lists, and never-ending priorities, and you don't feel like you're moving forward fast enough, you don't feel like you're feeling the daily wins?

I have studied this, not only in this with the science of happiness, as well as with neuroscience. And this is a key point that I teach to as many leaders in teams as I possibly can, how to notice the daily wins. The first is, I want you to notice when you do have those small wins. What does this mean? You do a quick exercise in the morning, you notice it, "I did that." You eat some healthy food, you notice it, "I did that." You take a forward action in your company or in your career, and instead of just moving forward to the next thing, you pause and you notice, "I had that small win."

The second is, I want you to communicate when you have small wins. Share it with your colleagues, share it with other entrepreneurs, share it with your spouse or your friends. On a daily, weekly basis, you need to be sharing and communicating the small wins.

The third is that I want you to establish daily rituals that set you up for success. What does this look like? This might be a 10-minute meditation practice in your calendar. This could be a yoga stretch at the end of the day. This could be, every single day, you're reaching out to five clients, five people you have relationships with so that you're making more sales. This could be that you're creating awesome weekly content for your social media. You need to set up rituals in your week so that you have small wins, and so that you'll feel the small wins every single week.

And I want you to remember that motivation increases not from thinking about what you want to do, motivation increases from taking action. So even if it's something so micro, such as one push-up, you put one push-up in your calendar every single day, that's an action. You say you're going to write one blog post every week, that's an action. And that action is going to give you a shot of dopamine, which is going to motivate you tomorrow to take another small action, and you are going to feel your daily wins.
